Essex Caledonian Pipe Band: Foundations, 1995-2025 is a comprehensive archive of the band’s first 30 years, collecting photos, competition results, membership lists and a near-exhaustive timeline of bookings and significant events.
Covering the band’s scrappy start as part of an aborted merger between Harwich & District and Brentwood Caledonian pipe bands – with just 40p in the band funds at one point – through to being the longest running competition band in the county, it’s an honest account of the highs and lows of being in a Pipe Band in South East England. The book also delves into the wider Essex bagpiping scene in the years and decades leading up to and following Essex Caledonian’s formation, uncovering a surprisingly rich history of bagpiping in the process.
